Curated by Abbie Griffiths, featuring works by Abigail Norris and Kay Gasei.
3rd April 2025 – 12th June 2025
Artists’ General Benevolent Institution 2024
This exhibition brings together the works of Abigail Norris and Kay Gasei, two artists exploring the intersection of psychology, myth and the hidden forces shaping artistic lives. Norris excavates fragile psychological terrains, while Gasei weaves dense visual narratives that merge history, mythology and contemporary themes.
Together, their works create a dialogue between the subconscious and the symbolic, the personal and the mythical, revealing how deeply embedded narratives shape both creativity and lived experience. Veil and Vessel as a title reflects this interplay: the veil symbolizes the unseen forces that shape our perceptions, while the vessel represents the self and the ways that our psychology might manifest.
These themes resonate with the work of the Artists’ General Benevolent Institution, which supports artists navigating the often-unseen struggles that define both their well-being and creative journeys. Through financial grants, the AGBI provides vital assistance to artists facing hardship due to illness or injury supporting them through difficult times so they can continue their artistic practice. By acknowledging both the art that emerges and the challenges that remain veiled, the AGBI ensures that the artist is held as a whole person and a creative being.
